Dafydd Roche, Marketing Director of Infineon’s Class D Audio Product Line, said, “This product can drive two 37 W speakers at full power, while supporting inductor-free, low EMI output. Since it consumes only One-tenth the price of competitors' products, so it can bring unique advantages to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original device manufacturers (ODMs), such as by eliminating large and bulky inductors and shielding devices and reducing the same play time required battery capacity to reduce product size and save system cost. And our eco-partners make our existing system solutions even more "powerful" - with decades of expertise in the audio field, they are our MERUS™ Design-in and product support for the family of amplifiers provides unparalleled support, accelerating time-to-market for customers."
MERUS™ integrated Class-D audio amplifier solutions provide customers with the highest degree of design freedom for innovative industrial products while maximizing audio performance and power efficiency. The integrated audio IC is housed in a compact and thermally efficient PQFN package, eliminating the need for a heat sink.
Infineon leads the industry in power efficiency with its revolutionary multilevel amplifier technology. The monolithic fully integrated multilevel Class-D audio amplifier IC eliminates the need for low-pass filters or heat sinks, giving designers more flexibility to optimize audio system performance, size and cost to meet design goals for today's and tomorrow's audio applications.
Integrated Class-D audio amplifier Multi-chip module (MCM) series devices integrate PWM control chip and digital audio power MOSFET in one package, provide high power efficiency, compact solution, reduce component count, eliminate heat sink, and reduce PCB size up to 70%.
The new MERUS™ multi-level switching technology enhances sound quality while consuming one-tenth the idle power of traditional Class D amplifiers. This multi-level class-D amplifier only needs ferrite beads to output a low-pass filter circuit, no need for large inductors, greatly reducing the space occupied by the PCB and the additional cost of the inductor.
Infineon's two main partners in this field, Eleven Engineering in the Global business area and Volumio in the EMEA business area, are currently each developing unique audio solutions based on MERUS™ Class-D audio amplifiers.
John Sobota, CEO, Director and Founder of Eleven Engineering, said: "Infineon's Class-D amplifier topology significantly extends the battery life of SKAA wireless products, making them even more attractive to customers. Apart from this obvious advantage , there is also the potential benefit of lower bill-of-materials costs due to the elimination of expensive components such as output inductors, chassis boxes, and dedicated heat sinks, which is attractive to industry players."
Products such as Volumio Primo, Rivo or Integro from Volumio are popular with audio enthusiasts, especially Integro, which won the Best Streaming Media Player/Amplifier of the Year Award from Stereo & Video Magazine. Volumio's products are designed to deliver the best possible music experience, making it seamless and convenient for everyone to enjoy. Michelangelo Guarise, founder and CEO of Volumio, said: "We chose to design our Integro integrated streaming media around MERUS™ multi-level Class-D audio technology because it offers the best combination of sound quality, efficiency and power consumption amplifier.
